Indiana Soccer Coaches Association
Dear Coaches,
On behalf of the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA) I would like to welcome you to another high school soccer season. This letter has been sent to all 283 boys and 245 girls high school soccer coaches in Indiana, and is an invitation to join this ISCA this season. The ISCA is the only organization that presents All-District, All-State, All-Academic and ISCA MVP awards for high school soccer in Indiana. This organization also hosts the College Showcase games between the 6 District teams and hosts the awards banquet the same weekend where all players who attend receive a plaque for their award(s). The ISCA is also the soccer coaches association recognized by the IHSAA.
In order to participate and have your players eligible to receive these awards, however, you must be a member! Every year many deserving players do not get their District, State, or All-Academic recognition because their coach or school did not join. Please either attend the summer coaches clinic (see back of this page) or take the time during the pre-season to send in your membership dues and information. If you wait, it may be too late! We will also have on-line membership and payment by credit card available at our website by the time school starts. We hope more coaches will take advantage of the coaches clinic this year which includes both your ISCA and NSCAA memberships, a great clinician, Bret Simon of Stanford Univ, and you get the IHSAA rules meeting completed!
After you join, the most important dates are for the All District player nominations and District meetings. The complete calendar can be found on the website. If you miss the date for nominations, or miss the District meeting, your players will not be nominated or voted on. Please note: the deadline for online nominations is Octoer 11th , which is the weekend before the girls sectionals begin, and the same as the boys sectional final. And, if you cannot attend the meeting on Sunday Oct. 19th, you can send an assistant or Athletic Director in your place, so there are no exceptions or excuses for schools that do not have someone present to represent their players.
The benefits of membership in the ISCA are:
1) Every team gets one ISCA Top Team Award for a senior (certificate) to be determined by their coach.
2) Every team gets All-Academic awards (certificate) for all players that meet the requirements
(3.6 seniors, 3.7 juniors, cumulative GPA through most recent grading period).
3) Member schools/coaches can nominate and vote on players for the All-District and All-State teams.
4) All-District teams play in the College Showcase games.
5) All-District players and Top Team winners are recognized and receive their awards at ISCA banquet
(except All-Academic, there are too many). All players who attend banquet receive plaques.
6) The ISCA is the organization that is recognized by the IHSAA for recommendations
and rules for soccer.
The strength of the ISCA is based on the number of members, and last year over 370 coaches joined the ISCA, which also means over 200 coaches/schools did not join and their players were left out. The final deadline for membership is Oct 1, however, if you register for and attend the coaches clinic August 4th , your ISCA and NSCAA membership is included! We will again post the membership list on our website throughout the season so you can check your membership status, as well as those of your conference or sectional opponents. If the schools you play are not members, it is very difficult to get coaches to vote for your players at the District meetings, so please encourage your fellow coaches to join. You can also check and see what district you are in since there may be changes from year to year based on the IHSAA sectionals.
Have a great season,
Paul Schroeder
